Hidden 15th-century temple ruins wrapped in dense forest, monsoon streams and star-filled nights — everything you need to plan the perfect Polo Forest trip from Ahmedabad.
Tucked into the Vijaynagar range on the Gujarat–Rajasthan border, the Polo Forest is one of the state's most underrated escapes — a rare mix of 15th-century Jain and Hindu temple ruins, dense deciduous forest and monsoon-fed streams, all within a 3–4 hour drive of Ahmedabad.
Best time to visit
The forest transforms with the seasons. Monsoon (July–September) is when it truly comes alive: waterfalls run, the canopy turns emerald green, and the Harnav river swells. Winter (November–February) is ideal for camping and trekking with cool, dry days.
What to see & do
- Explore the Sharneshwar Mahadev temple and the scattered Polo ruins
- Trek to the seasonal waterfalls deep inside the forest
- Spot leopards, sloth bears and over 100 species of birds (with a guide)
- Camp overnight under an unpolluted, star-filled sky
How to plan it
A one-day trip works if you leave Ahmedabad early, but to really soak it in, book a guided overnight camp. Going with a club means transport, permits, meals and a local guide are handled — you just show up and explore.
Polo Forest isn't a place you rush through. Give it a full day and it rewards you with silence, green and a little bit of history.
